LAHORE, (daily paklish): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman are expected to meet in next two days to discuss the elimination of the petroleum levy, JI Vice Emir Liaqat Baloch said on Sunday.
Baloch said Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Rana Sanaullah Khan had contacted him by telephone and informed him about the proposed meeting.
He said members of the government’s negotiating committee had briefed the prime minister on the progress made during recent talks between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami delegations at Punjab House in Islamabad.
The JI leader said Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman would meet the prime minister with a clear agenda: the complete abolition of the petroleum levy.
“Jamaat-e-Islami wants the petroleum levy abolished,” Baloch said, reiterating the JI demand for relief to the public from rising fuel costs.
He added the JI had launched the third phase of its protest movement against the levy. He warned that the JI would organise a long march towards Islamabad if the government failed to provide relief to the people.
