KARACHI: (daily paklish): Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Monem Zafar on Monday visited the residence of 16-year-old Hafiz Rosham Khan in Ramadan Goth, UC-01, Manghopir, who was killed during a robbery by suspects in police uniform and was buried 20 days after the incident, following the arrest of suspects.
He met the victim’s father, Dr Roidad Khan, his uncle and other family members and expressed deep grief and sorrow over the incident. District West chief Mudassir Hussain Ansari, Information Secretary Zahid Askari and others were also present on the occasion.
It may be recalled that Monem Zafar Khan had also participated in and expressed solidarity with the sit-in staged by the family at the Manghopir police station for the arrest of Rosham Khan’s killers.
Speaking during the meeting, the JI Karachi chief expressed deep concern over rising incidents of street crime and armed robbery in the city and condemned what he termed incompetence and failure of the Sindh government and police. He said it was the responsibility of the government to ensure protection of lives and property of the people.
He paid tribute to Dr Roidad Khan and his family for their sit-in and struggle for the arrest of his son’s killers and said there was life in struggle and resistance against oppression.
Dr Roidad Khan thanked Monem Zafar for his visit and said it was the government’s responsibility to prevent criminal elements so that what happened to his son did not happen to any other youth and family.
Monem Zafar said lawlessness and armed robberies had become routine in the city. Citizens were being shot by armed robbers in broad daylight in some places, while robbers entered houses and killed people in others, he said, adding that the Sindh government, police and law enforcement agencies had failed to fulfil their responsibility and had left the people at the mercy of robbers, while killers of citizens were not arrested.
Separately, Monem Zafar visited the residence of Police Constable Abdul Wahab Khattak in Shireen Jinnah Colony, who was martyred during an encounter between drug peddlers and police, and met and condoled with his family. He expressed sorrow over the incident and prayed for forgiveness of the deceased and patience for the family.
