ISLAMABAD, Sep 21 (daily paklish): A delegation of 123 participants of the National Security & War Course 2027 from the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, led by Maj. Gen. Mohammad Shahzad Khan, Chief Instructor, called on Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, at the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday.
The delegation comprised faculty members, officers from the Armed Forces and Civil Services of Pakistan, and 27 participants from friendly countries.
Welcoming the delegation, the Chief Justice highlighted the salient features of parliamentary democracy and the constitutional scheme of trichotomy of powers, explaining the complementary roles of the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary in upholding constitutional governance and the rule of law. His Lordship also apprised the participants of the judicial hierarchy and the respective jurisdictions of various courts.
Referring to institutional coordination and justice sector reforms, the Chief Justice highlighted the role of the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee (NJPMC) as the highest judicial policy forum and briefed the delegation on measures aimed at strengthening court infrastructure, public facilitation and access to justice, including uninterrupted power supply, e-libraries, clean drinking water and improved facilities for women court users.
His Lordship further highlighted the Gender-Responsive Justice Initiative 2026–27, with particular focus on Women Facilitation Centres designed to provide women litigants with essential facilitation and support services under one roof, as part of the judiciary’s broader effort to make justice more accessible, inclusive and responsive to public needs.
The Chief Justice also engaged participants in an interactive question-and-answer session, providing an opportunity to exchange views on constitutional governance, justice-sector institutions, and ongoing reforms.
The delegation later visited the Supreme Court Museum, Court Annexed Mediation Center and showed keen interest in the Court’s judicial archives and institutional history. Souvenirs were exchanged between the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the head of the delegation on the occasion.
