LAHORE, (daily paklish): Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Zia-ud-Din Ansari Advocate, has announced that Jamaat-e-Islami has decided to field its candidates in every Union Council of Lahore for the upcoming local body elections. Empowered local institutions serve as the nursery of democracy and the primary means of resolving public issues; elected representatives can serve the public far better than the bureaucracy.
Welcoming the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to issue the schedule for local body elections in Punjab, he demanded that the Government of Punjab take immediate and concrete steps to ensure the transparent and timely conduct of the polls.
He expressed these views while talking to media representatives following the release of the local body elections schedule by the Election Commission. Zia-ud-Din Ansari Advocate stated that any delay in local body elections is completely unacceptable and urged the government not to use ongoing court proceedings as a pretext for deferment. Jamaat-e-Islami has already clarified its stance against election postponement in court. If the elections commence on February 7, Jamaat-e-Islami will participate fully across Lahore and Punjab, intensifying its election campaign.
He further added that merely creating nine 9 towns will not resolve the comprehensive and equitable development challenges of Lahore. Local institutions must be freed from the grip of bureaucracy by granting real administrative and financial powers to elected public representatives. Jamaat-e-Islami remains committed to establishing a strong and empowered local government system through the public mandate.
