KARACHI, (daily pklish): Alkhidmat Karachi has inaugurated its 78th water filtration plant in Abdul Rahim Goth, Surjani Town, under its Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme. The water filtration plant was inaugurated by CEO Alkhidmat Karachi Naveed Ali Baig. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Jamaat-e-Islami District North Ameer Tariq Mujtaba, WASH Programme Director Gauhar-ul-Islam, Alkhidmat officials, community representatives and a large number of local residents. Following the inauguration, Naveed Ali Baig and other guests also visited the water filtration plant.
Addressing the ceremony, Alkhidmat CEO Naveed Ali Baig said that Alkhidmat was extending access to safe drinking water facilities across the city. He said Alkhidmat had been working on clean drinking water projects for several decades, and the programme was expanding continuously. He said that 77 plants were currently operational across Karachi and that millions of citizens were benefiting from these facilities. He stressed that the use of contaminated water can cause various diseases, making it essential to raise public awareness about the importance of clean and quality drinking water. Naveed Ali Baig said that there was a strong need for a water filtration plant in Abdul Rahim Goth, Surjani Town.
Following the installation of the plant, a large number of residents of Abdul Rahim Goth and surrounding areas would benefit from the facility. WASH Programme Director Gauhar-ul-Islam said that Alkhidmat’s WASH programme was working with a clear focus on clean-water projects, while its technical team remained organised and vigilant in maintaining the plants. He said Alkhidmat had an effective system for monitoring and testing water quality, which operates on a daily basis. Jamaat-e-Islami District North Ameer Tariq Mujtaba Tariq appreciated Alkhidmat’s social services, particularly its work in the water sector, and expressed hope that Alkhidmat would continue installing similar plants in other areas in the future.
