ISLAMABAD(Manend News) The federal government on Wednesday filed a review petition against the Supreme Court order for shifting incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan to Islamabad’s Shifa International Hospital for examination and treatment by a multidisciplinary medical board.

But hours after the SC’s interim order, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar in a statement that the government would approach the court for modification of its order. Citing prison rules, he argued that they mandated a prisoner’s treatment at a government facility unless a medical board determined that the necessary care was unavailable there.
Subsequently, the government filed a review petition in the court today, maintaining that the SC’s interim order was “in excess of jurisdiction”, and therefore, “liable to be reviewed”.
The plea, a copy of which is available with Dawn, further stated that the order “suffers from errors of law floating on the surface of the record”.
